Why oil filters carry so many numbers
The catalogue's oil filter listings print a set of numbers together with the headline OE number — that printed set is the cross reference. This site records the numbers as the listings print them; it does not assign each number to a maker, brand or replacement system. Used properly, the set means a buyer can enter the range from whichever of those numbers their stock system already holds.
The method, in four steps
- Start from the part. Read the number printed on the filter being replaced — the can, or the element end cap on a cartridge type.
- Find the listing. Search the oil filter catalogue for that number. If it is not the headline number of a listing, check the cross-reference sets printed on the listings for that vehicle.
- Check the application yourself. The listing title names the vehicles the filter is listed for. The cross reference points to a listing; check the application against your vehicle, and include your OE number and vehicle details in your enquiry so you can check the fitment for your order against them before ordering. This site does not confirm fitment.
- Quote that listing's OE number. Ordering against the catalogue's OE number keeps the paperwork in one number system.

Reading the table
Two patterns in the table are worth noting. First, overlap: 90915-03001 appears in the cross sets of both 90915-YZZE1 and 90915-YZZN1, and 90915-YZZD3 appears as a cross reference under YZZN1 while also being a headline number of its own listing. Overlaps like these are exactly why step three — checking the application yourself — is not optional. Second, format: the 04152 rows are cartridge elements, not cans; a cross reference never changes the format, so a CH10158 in your system is an element order here, under 04152-31060 or 04152-31080 depending on the application.
Beyond oil: cross references elsewhere in the catalogue
The same device appears across the catalogue. Cabin filter listings cross-reference within the 87139 series and out to CU1919 (see cabin filters); Perkins fuel filters cross-reference to PU8041z and 33804 (see fuel filters); stabilizer links and shock absorbers print cross-reference numbers alongside their OE references (see stabilizer links and shock absorbers). The blog article oil filter cross reference: how to match OE numbers works through a matching example step by step.
Frequently asked questions
My number appears in two cross-reference sets. Which listing do I order?
The one whose title names your vehicle. If both name it, send both candidate numbers with the vehicle details in your enquiry, and check the application lists of both listings against your vehicle before you order.
Do cross references guarantee the same filter?
A number printed in a listing's cross-reference set is printed there by that listing, and the application check is part of the method, because cross sets overlap between neighbouring listings. Check the vehicle application in the listing title yourself before ordering; this site does not confirm fitment or equivalence.
